Day 1 Monday

leaving Amsterdam, a full day's drive around the IJsselmeer (former Zuiderzee) with its dreamy 16th century old cities and fishing villages. First a stop at the Zaanse Schans Open Air Museum with its typical wooden houses and windmills still in operation. Via the highway and the Afsluitdijk, the famous 32 km enclosing dike we enter Friesland. Here you will visit the picturesque villages Makkum, famous for its Makkummer earthenware and Hindeloopen. After a scenic drive along the Frisian lakes, we enter the reclaimed new land province Flevoland. A visit will be made to Urk, a lively place with pleasant cafés and delicious fish restaurants in the new harbour which peer over the IJsselmeer. Proceed to hotel for dinner and overnight. (Mercure Lelystad or similar)

Day 2 Tuesday

Today we start with a visit to the information centre of the polderland, where you can see the history of reclaiming land from the sea. Via the new land we drive to Giethoorn, the green Venice of the North emanates an agreeable, pleasant atmosphere with its small canals, lovely arched bridges, and weaving shell paths. In the afternoon a scenic drive along the IJssel river will bring you to the Hanseatic city of Deventer. Since Deventer is one of the oldest towns in the Netherlands it does not come as a surprise that the oldest brick private house is to be found there. Proceed to hotel for dinner and overnight. (Golden Tulip Inntel Zutphen or similar)

Day 3 Wednesday

This day begins with a visit to the National Park De Hoge Veluwe with the Kröller Müller Museum - well known for its Van Gogh collection and sculpture park. We proceed Utrecht for a visit to the historic centre of this religious centre, with it many churches and museums, like the Dom tower (112m) and the clock and organ museum. From Utrecht we proceed to the hotel for dinner and overnight in the Noordwijk area. (NH Leeuwenhorst hotel or similar)

Day 4 Thursday

From the hotel we will drive to Delft. In Delft you can visit the famous market square. We drive along the highway to Zeeland with its famous Delta Works. The Haringvliet dam and Brouwersdam are two of the important flood-control works of the Deltaplan. But of course, the Oosterscheldedam is the most well known and most expensive one of them all. Then to Zeeland's capital Middelburg, with its impressive city hall. Via a new tunnel under the Westerschelde (open sea connection for Antwerp) we proceed to Ghent where King Charles V was born in 1500. A visit to the St. Baafs Cathedral with the triptych of the Lamb of God. Dinner and overnight in/near Bruges. (Park hotel or similar)

Day 5 Friday

In historic Bruges, it is time for visits around the Market Square with its mediaeval guild houses and townhall. You will enjoy a boattrip through the picturesque canals. In the afternoon we proceed to Brussels for a sightseeing tour around the Royal Palace, Palace of Justice and the famous Grand Place. Time off for shopping in downtown Brussels. Dinner and overnight in the heart of the city. (NH Atlanta hotel or similar)

Day 6 Saturday
